최지원 (b.1996)은 이화여자대학교 서양화과 학사를 졸업하고 동대학원을 석사학위를 취득했다. 오래된 도자기 인형을 소재로 한 동시대의 정서를 담은 회화로 이름을 알리고 있는 신진작가다. 작가는 일상에서 수집한 낡고 오래된인공/자연물들의 형태를 빌어 삶을 다했음에도 여전히 살아 있어 현재에 영향을 끼치는 존재들에 대해 이야기한다. 이러한 존재들은 동시대를 살아가는 사람들의 삶의 의미와 작가 본인이 처한 세계를 이해하고자 하는 상징적인 행위의 결과물로서 화폭 위에 그려진다.

Choi Jiwon (b. 1996) earned her bachelor’s degree in Western Painting from Ewha Womans University and a master’s degree from the same university. She is an emerging artist known for paintings that capture contemporary sentiment through the motif of old porcelain dolls. Drawing on the forms of worn and aged objects and natural materials she collects from everyday life, she explores the presence of things whose lives have seemingly come to an end, yet remain alive and continue to influence the present. These beings are rendered on canvas as the outcome of a symbolic act, through which she seeks to understand the meaning of life for those living in the present and the world she herself inhabits.
