최종관 [칠장]
최종관 작가는 채화칠기 작가 중요무형유산 나전칠기장 제10호 고(故) 김태희 선생으로부터 사사했으며, 2004년 대한민국 채화칠기 기능전승자로 지정되어, 현재 작가로서 50여 년째 접어들고 있다. 그의 작품은 국무총리상과 동아공예대전 대상을 비롯해 국내 뿐 아니라 미국, 일본 유럽 등에서도 전시회 및 박람회 워크숍 등에 소개되어 한국 전통문화를 세계에 알리는데 큰 기여를 하고 있다. 작품명은 국당초 혼수함으로 당초는 끊이지 않고 이어지기 때문에 ‘오래도록 영생한다’라는 의미를 가지고 있다. 덩굴 식물의 실제적인 형태를 본떠 일정한 형식으로 도안화하여 작품에 나타내었다.

Cho Jong-gwan [Lacquerware]
Artist Cho Jong-gwan is a master of Chiljang (lacquerware) who trained under the late Kim Tae-hee, the 10th designated Important Intangible Cultural Property of Korea for lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl. In 2004, Cho was officially recognized as a bearer of the Chiljang tradition and has since dedicated over 50 years to his craft. His work, which has earned accolades like the Prime Minister’s Award and the grand prize at the Dong-A Crafts Exhibition, has been featured in exhibitions, fairs, and workshops across Korea, the United States, Japan, and Europe, playing a significant role in promoting Korean traditional culture worldwide. One of his notable works is titled “Gukdangcho Honsoo Ham.” The dangcho pattern symbolizes eternal life, with the vine motif representing unending continuity. This design, inspired by the natural form of climbing plants, has been stylized into a distinct pattern and skillfully incorporated into the piece.
