궁중채화는 국가무형유산 궁중채화장 황수로 박사가 100여년 이상 단절된 우리의 채화를 고증을 통해 복원하였다. 채화는 사람의 손이 닿아야 피는 꽃이다. 자연의 꽃을 모방하는 것이 아니라 자연을 대상으로 하는 공예창작물이다.
궁중채화 서울랩은 국가무형유산 궁중채화 이수자 최성우가 궁중채화를 교육하고 더욱 창발하기 위해 설립된 연구실이다. 현대미술가, 식물학자, 공예가, 문화기획자등과 함께 채화의 현대적 확장 가능성을 모색하고 있다.

Gungjung Chaehwa, a royal silk flower making, was revived by Dr. Hwang Soo-ro, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage holder, who painstakingly restored this art form after it had been lost for over a century. Unlike natural flowers, chaehwa are handcrafted works of art that offer creative interpretations of nature, rather than simple imitations.
The Gungjung Chaehwa Seoul Lab was founded by Choi Sungwoo, a certified trainee of Gungjung Chaehwa, to teach and further develop this traditional craft. The lab works with contemporary artists, botanists, craftsmen, and cultural planners to explore the modern possibilities of chaehwa.
