Jo Hyun-young, who learned traditional furniture-making from his father, a designated intangible cultural asset in Somokjang (traditional woodworking) from Jinju, Gyeongnam, is an artist who brings a modern touch to traditional furniture. Using a variety of wood types, Jo crafts items like soban (small tables), seoan (writing tables), dining tables, and butterfly cabinets. His pieces, shaped by his skilled craftsmanship, offer a unique experience where the essence of tradition meets modern design, seamlessly blending the past with the present.
