Master Im Geum-hee is a traditional artisan specializing in Dahoe and Mangsu. Dahoe refers to traditional Korean cords made by braiding multiple strands of silk thread, while Mangsu is a decorative technique that interlaces these cords to create patterns. She restores and carries on traditional techniques once used in the royal court and aristocratic attire of the Joseon Dynasty. The Dahoe-weaving frame she personally designed and built was named “Goryeotagi” by her late teacher, Master Cho Il-sun. In 2023, she received the Prime Minister’s Award at the Korea Traditional Crafts Grand Exhibition, and continues her practice through solo exhibitions. She remains dedicated to preserving the traditions of Dahoe and Mangsu, and operates the Im Geum-hee Dahoe & Mangsu Institute, where she also works to train the next generation.
