현대작가 이시평은 건국대학교 글로컬캠퍼스 산업디자인학과를 졸업한 목공예(가구) 작가이다. 2025 청주국제공예공모전에서 71개국 990대 1의 경쟁률을 뚫고 심사위원 만장일치로 대상을 수상하며 단숨에 주목받았다. 대표작 《Log 일지(日誌)》는 금속에 민감하게 반응하는 레드오크 목재 위에 녹슨 금속을 반복적으로 굴려 녹을 스며들게 하고, 칠흑 같은 색감을 끌어올린 가구 작품이다. 녹슨 금속 기둥에 쇳가루를 주입해 움직일 때마다 소리가 나도록 제작하는 등 시각과 청각을 모두 자극하는 실험적 접근이 돋보인다. 공예와 조형의 경계를 넘나드는 작업 방식으로 한국 공예계의 라이징 스타로 자리매김하고 있다.

Contemporary artist Lee Sipyeong is a woodworking and furniture artist who graduated from the Department of Industrial Design at Konkuk University’s Glocal Campus. He drew widespread attention after unanimously winning the Grand Prize at the 2025 Cheongju International Craft Competition, competing against entries from 71 countries. His signature work, Log Ilji, is a furniture piece created by repeatedly rolling rusted metal over red oak, a wood that reacts sensitively to metal, allowing the rust to seep into the surface and produce a deep, jet-black tone. His experimental approach engages both sight and sound, as seen in the rusted metal columns filled with iron filings that produce sound whenever the work is moved. Working across the boundaries of craft and sculpture, he has established himself as a rising figure in the Korean contemporary craft scene.
