양자주 [설치조각]

양자주 작가는 도시의 일상적이고 하찮은 물질을 수집하여 회화와 설치 작품으로 재구성하는 작업을 하는 작가이다.
베를린을 중심으로 파리, 런던, 멜버른 등 세계 여러 도시에서 낡은 벽지, 타일 조각, 철망, 나무판 등의 부산물을 채집해 레진으로 응고시킨 작품을 만든다. 그의 작업은 단순한 재료 재구성을 넘어 도시의 기억과 시간을 담아내며, 도시의 소외된 공간과 그곳 사람들의 삶을 조명한다.
2019년 개인전 ‘사이트 콜렉티브’에서 5개국 10여 개 도시의 주변화된 공간 부산물로 제작한 작품 20여 점을 선보였다. 양자주 작가의 작품은 하찮아 보이는 물질에 새로운 가치를 부여하고, 관람객에게 도시의 숨겨진 이야기를 전달한다.

Yang Jazoo transforms the overlooked and ordinary remnants of city life into powerful works of art. Collecting materials such as worn wallpaper, broken tiles, wire mesh, and wooden boards from cities including Berlin, Paris, London, and Melbourne, she reworks them into paintings and installations, often solidified with resin.
Her practice is not just about recycling materials—it’s about preserving memories and time embedded in urban fragments. By highlighting what is usually cast aside, Yang brings attention to forgotten spaces and the lives that have unfolded there.
In her 2019 solo exhibition Site Collective, she presented more than 20 works created from remnants gathered across 10 cities in five different countries. Through these works, Yang gives new value to what once seemed insignificant, inviting viewers to discover the hidden stories of the city.
