소피 폰 헬러만은 1975년 독일 뮌헨 출생으로, 현재 런던과 마가트에서 활동하는 현대미술 작가이다. 뒤셀도르프 쿤스트아카데미에서 학사 학위를, 런던 왕립예술학교에서 석사 학위를 받았으며, 현재 독일 카를스루에 국립미술대학교에서 회화 교수로 재직 중이다. 작품은 꿈결 같은 분위기와 서정적인 색조가 특징이며, 순수 안료와 아크릴 에멀젼을 혼합해 넓은 붓질로 가벼운 터치를 구현한다. 문학, 신화, 역사, 개인 경험을 결합한 상상력 풍부한 장면을 창조하며, 관람객을 환상적인 세계로 안내한다. 1998년부터 런던과 뒤셀도르프 기반 예술가 집단 hobbypopMUSEUM의 창립 멤버로 활동했다. 작품은 테이트 브리튼, 메트로폴리탄 미술관, LACMA 등 세계 주요 미술관에 소장되어 있다.

Sophie von Hellermann was born in Munich, Germany, in 1975 and is a contemporary artist now based between London and Margate. She holds a degree from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London, and currently serves as a professor of painting at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design in Germany. Her work is marked by a dreamlike atmosphere and lyrical tones, achieved by mixing pure pigment with acrylic emulsion and applying it in broad, light brushstrokes. Drawing together literature, mythology, history, and personal experience, she creates imaginative scenes that guide the viewer into a fantastical world. Since 1998 she has been a founding member of hobbypopMUSEUM, an artist collective based in London and Düsseldorf, and her work is held in major museums worldwide, including Tate Britain, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and LACMA.
