한국전통문화대 전통미술공예학과에 재잭중인 박기찬 작가는 전통 섬유를 복원하는데 힘쓰고 있다. 특히 직성 직금흉배(織金胸背)는 제직 계획 단계부터 복식의 형태와 흉배의 위치를 정하고 금사를 사용하여 문양을 짠 직물이다. 이러한 직물은 매우 특별한 형태로, 기술이 단절되었던 분야를 현대에 제직 가능한 방식으로 재현해냈다. 오랜 시간 한올 한올 정성을 다해 짜낸 직성 직금 흉배는 단순한 복식이 아니라, 시대를 품은 문화 유산이자 예술이다.

Park Gi-chan, currently studying traditional arts and crafts at the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, is devoted to restoring traditional Korean textiles. His focus is jikseong jikgeum-hyungbae, a woven rank badge in which the shape of the garment and the placement of the badge are planned from the very beginning of weaving, with patterns worked into the fabric using gold thread. This is an unusually demanding form, and Park has managed to revive a technique whose line of practice had been broken, weaving it in ways that work today. Made thread by thread with painstaking care over a long process, this gold-thread rank badge is more than a piece of clothing — it stands as both cultural heritage and art carrying the weight of its era.
