로사 로이(Rosa Loy, b.1958)는 독일 라이프치히를 기반으로 활동하는 현대미술 작가로, ’21세기 최초의 진정한 예술적 현상’이라는 평가를 받으며 신 라이프치히 화파(New Leipzig School)를 대표하는 주축 작가이다. 작품의 주인공은 언제나 여성으로, 삶을 능동적으로 개척하고 서로 연대하는 여성들의 모습을 통해 페미니즘과 이상적인 공동체에 대한 동경을 화폭에 담아낸다. 유화나 아크릴 대신 프레스코화에 쓰이던 고전 재료인 카제인 물감을 직접 만들어 사용하며, 무광택의 은은하고 신비로운 색채로 몽환적인 분위기를 자아내는 것이 특징이다. 뉴욕현대미술관, 로스앤젤레스 현대미술관, 부산시립미술관 등 세계 유수의 기관에 작품이 소장되어 있으며, 국제적인 작가로서 꾸준히 활발한 전시 활동을 이어가고 있다.

Rosa Loy (b. 1958) is a contemporary artist based in Leipzig, Germany, and a leading figure of the New Leipzig School, hailed as “the first genuine artistic phenomenon of the 21st century.” Women are the protagonists of her work, through whom she expresses feminist ideals and a longing for an ideal community, portraying women who actively shape their own lives and stand in solidarity with one another. Rather than using oil or acrylic, she makes and uses her own casein paint, a traditional material associated with fresco painting, creating a matte, subtle, and mysterious palette that lends her works a dreamlike atmosphere. Her works are held in the collections of leading institutions worldwide, including The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the Busan Museum of Art. She continues to exhibit internationally as an artist of growing global recognition.
