김현희 [아크릴가구]
김현희 작가는 홍익대학교 미술대학 목조형가구학과를 졸업하였고 전통가구를 모티브로 하여 재해석한 작품을 선보이는 작가다. 무엇보다 고루하다고 느낄 수도 있는 전통 가구를 아크릴과 같은 현대 재료와 기법으로 과감하게 변주하여 설화수, 루이까또즈, 리모 등 국내외 럭셔리 브랜드와 활발히 협업하고 있다. 또한, 그녀의 작품 주제는 ‘경계’이다. 그녀의 대표작품은 ‘규방 시리즈’ 로 조선시대 여성들의 거처인 규방 가구가 특히나 폐쇄적이고 장식적이라는 과거의 여성상이 나타나는 특성에 주목하여 기존의 관념과 경계를 허무는 작업을 시도 하게 되었고 말 그대로 가구의 벽을 허물어 틀과 장석만을 남긴 특징을 보이게 된다.

Kim Hyun-hee [Acrylic Furniture]
Kim Hyun-hee, a graduate of the Department of Woodworking and Furniture Design at Hongik University, is an artist renowned for her reinterpretation of traditional Korean furniture. She draws inspiration from these traditional forms and reimagines them in her contemporary works. By boldly integrating modern materials and techniques, such as acrylic, into what might otherwise be seen as conventional designs, she breathes new life into the old. Her innovative approach has led to collaborations with luxury brands both in Korea and internationally, including Sulwhasoo, Louis Quatorze, and Rimowa. The central theme of her work is “boundaries.” One of her most notable series, the “Gyubang Series,” is inspired by the gyubang, the traditionally secluded quarters of women during the Joseon Dynasty. This series challenges and redefines traditional perceptions by deconstructing the physical walls of the furniture, leaving only the frames and decorative elements, thus questioning historical and cultural boundaries.
