유선희 누비장 전승교육사, 국가무형유산

누비는 두 겹의 옷감 사이에 솜을 넣거나 옷감을 겹쳐 일정한 간격으로 바느질하는 전통 섬유공예 기법이다. 일정한 간격을 유지하며 한 땀 한 땀 이어가는 정교한 바느질은 옷의 보온성과 내구성을 높이는 동시에, 반복되는 선과 간격을 통해 절제된 조형미를 만들어낸다. 누비의 간격과 바느질의 균일함은 장인의 숙련도와 섬세한 손기술을 보여주는 중요한 요소이기도 하다.
유선희 선생은 단국대학교 대학원 전통의상학과에서 누비를 전공하였고 2003년부터 무형유산 누비장 김해자 선생님께 사사하여 2020년 누비장 우수 이수자로 선정된 후 전승교육사로 인정받았다. 단국대학교 석주선기념박물관의 출토 복식 복원 전시, 누비문화원 회원전 ‘느림의 미학’, ‘경주의 하늘을 누빌레라’ 등 여러 차례의 전시에 참여했다. 현재 누비문화연구원 이사와 서울·경기 지부장을 맡아 누비를 가르치고 있다.

Nubi is a traditional Korean textile craft technique that involves layering two pieces of fabric, either with cotton batting between them or without, and stitching them at regular intervals. The precise stitching, maintained at consistent intervals, enhances the warmth and durability of the garment while creating a restrained aesthetic through the rhythm of repeated lines and spaces. The consistency of the stitching and spacing is also an important indicator of the artisan’s skill and delicate craftsmanship.
Yoo Sun-hee, who specialized in quilting at Dankook University’s Graduate School of Traditional Clothing, began her training in 2003 under Master Kim Hae-ja, an Intangible Cultural Heritage holder in Nubijang (traditional quilting). In 2020, Yoo was recognized as an outstanding successor in Nubijang and was officially designated as a transmission education instructor. She has participated in numerous exhibitions, including the restoration of excavated clothing at the Seok Juseon Memorial Museum of Dankook University, the Nubimunhwaweon members’ exhibition “The Aesthetics of Slowness,” and “Flying over the Sky of Gyeongju.” Currently, she serves as a director of the Nubimunhwa Research Institute and leads the Seoul-Gyeonggi branch, where she teaches nubi (quilting).
