현대작가 최윤미 작가는 중앙대학교 예술대학에서 한국화를 전공하고, 일본 동경예술대학 대학원에서 회화(벽화)과를 졸업했다. 작가의 그림은 동양의 정신을 잘 나타내는 그림 그리기 방식이다. 그렇기에 형태 이전에 정신이 중요시 된다. 즉 선이 그림의 중심이며, 한지와 먹이 주 재료이다. 삶의 의미를 찾고 수신하는 행위는 동양의 옛 그림 그리기 방식과 연결되어 있다. ‘원’과 ‘사각형’을 선으로 반복적으로 그리는 행위는 서양에서 부르는 추상화와 닮아 있다. 눈에 보이는 형태보다 그 이면의 정신세계에 집중하여 삶의 의미를 성찰하는 그림을 통해 동양의 미의식과 정신세계를 표현하고 있다.

Contemporary artist Choi Yoon-mi studied Korean painting at Chung-Ang University’s College of Arts and later earned a degree in mural painting from Tokyo University of the Arts. Her work captures the essence of Eastern philosophy, where spirit takes precedence over form. Central to her paintings are the lines, with hanji (traditional Korean paper) and ink as her primary materials. Choi’s artistic practice is deeply rooted in the traditional Eastern approach to painting, which emphasizes the search for life’s meaning and the cultivation of the self. The repetitive act of drawing circles and squares in her work bears resemblance to what is known in the West as abstract art. By focusing on the inner spiritual world rather than outward forms, Choi conveys the aesthetics and profound spiritual depth of Eastern thought through her art.
