이상헌 작가는 동양화 분야에서 독특한 작업 세계를 구축한 현대미술 작가이다.
선의 반복과 중첩을 통해 깊이감을 표현하며, 이는 수행과 기억의 중첩을 상징한다. 세필 붓의 옆면을 사용해 수백 번의 선을 쌓는 방식을 주로 사용한다. 대표 연작인 ‘별’ 시리즈는 창밖 하늘에서 영감을 받아 노란색 아크릴 물감을 주사기로 짜내 표현하였다.
한국화의 전통 기법과 재료를 현대적으로 재해석한 작품을 선보인다. 한지 위에 드로잉하고 아교가 섞인 분채로 색을 쌓으며, 주사기를 이용해 아크릴 물감을 짜내는 방식을 사용한다.
작가는 세심한 작업 과정과 인내를 통해 ‘고생해야 원하는 그림이 나온다’는 철학을 실천한다.

Lee Sang-heon is a contemporary artist who has developed a distinctive style within Korean painting. His works create depth through the repetition and layering of countless lines, a process that symbolizes both discipline and memory. Using the side of a fine brush, he patiently builds up hundreds of strokes, turning persistence itself into a visual language.
In his well-known Stars series, inspired by the night sky outside his window, Lee used a syringe to squeeze yellow acrylic paint directly onto the surface, transforming points of light into vivid constellations.
Blending tradition with innovation, he reimagines the techniques of Korean painting in a modern context—drawing on hanji (traditional Korean paper), layering mineral pigments mixed with animal glue, and introducing unexpected methods like applying paint with a syringe.
Every work reflects his belief that “only through effort and perseverance can the desired image emerge,” a philosophy that resonates in the patience, care, and quiet intensity of his art.
