유세현 국가무형유산 궁시장
신전(信箭 Shinjeon) 화살촉, 깃털, 천 가변설치
故 유영기 보유자의 아들로, 가업을 이어받아 4대째 장단 화살의 전통을 이어가고 있다. 파주출생으로 1986년에 본격적으로 시작하여, 2004년 전수교육조교(現 전승 교육사)를 거쳐 2022년 궁시장 보유자로 지정되었다. 궁시장의 지식과 제작 기술을 체계화하고, ‘효시’를 비롯한 다수의 화살을 재현하는데 몰두했다. 2001년 부자가 함께 우리나라 최초의 활, 화살 전문 박물관인 영집궁시박물관을 정식 개관하여 매해 다양한 관점에서 우리 활과 화살의 역사와 문화를 두루 살핀 특별전과 기획전을 개최하며 활과 화살을 알리고 있다. 궁시장은 활과 화살을 만드는 기능과 기능을 가진 사람으로 활 만드는 사람을 궁장(弓匠), 화살 만드는 사람을 시장(矢匠)이라 부르는데 조선의 비밀병기 ‘편전’을 복원한 이들 부자는 화살을 만드는 시장(矢匠)에 해당한다.
Yoo Se-hyun

Yoo Se-hyun is the son of the late Yoo Young-gi, a renowned master bowyer, and he continues his family’s legacy as a fourth-generation artisan of the traditional Jangdan arrow-making craft. Born in Paju, Yoo began his journey in earnest in 1986. After serving as an assistant instructor in 2004 (now known as a master instructor), he was officially recognized as a master bowyer in 2022. Yoo has devoted his career to preserving and systematizing the knowledge and techniques of bow and arrow making, with a focus on recreating historical arrows, including the Hyo-si (signal arrow).
In 2001, Yoo and his father opened the Yongjip Bow and Arrow Museum, Korea’s first museum dedicated to the history of bows and arrows. The museum hosts annual special and curated exhibitions that delve into the rich history and culture of Korean archery, playing a crucial role in promoting and preserving this traditional craft.
In the world of bow and arrow making, artisans who craft bows are called gungjang (弓匠), while those who craft arrows are known as sijang (矢匠). Yoo and his father, who successfully restored the Joseon Dynasty’s secret weapon, the pyeonjeon (a type of short arrow), are recognized as sijang, or master arrow-makers.
