정다혜 [말총공예]
현대작가 정다혜는 한국의 말총공예 분야에서 주목받고 있는 예술가로서, 2022년 한국인 최초로 ‘성실의시간(A Sincerity of Time)’이란 작품으로 로에베 재단 공예상을 수상했다. 말의 갈기나 꼬리의 털을 말하는 말총은, 조선시대까지는 망건이나 탕건과 갓을 만드는데 많이 쓰였다. 작가는 낯선 소재인 말총을 주된 재료로 사용하여 독창적이고 현대적인 작품을 창출하고 있으며, 이를 통해 전통 공예의 재해석과 현대적인 맥락에서의 재조명을 시도하고 있다.

Jeong Da-hye [Horsehair Craft]
Jeong Da-hye is a contemporary artist making waves in the field of Korean horsehair craft. In 2022, she became the first Korean to win the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize with her piece A Sincerity of Time. Horsehair, which comes from a horse’s mane or tail, was traditionally used in Korea up until the Joseon Dynasty to create items like manggeon (headbands), tanggeon (hair caps), and gat (traditional Korean hats). Jeong uses this unconventional material as her primary medium to craft innovative, modern works that reimagine traditional crafts and explore their relevance in a contemporary context.
